Key Infrastructure Updates and Advancements

Bailey Power Plant and Bailey Park

Development of Bailey Park between 4th and 5th streets and Vine Street and Patterson Avenue and remediation of the old Bailey Power Plant are on schedule. The north part of Bailey Park near Wake Forest Biotech Place will open in mid-2013. The park will not only provide a place to relax for Innovation Quarter tenants and the community, but will be a hub for cultural events such as movies, yoga and more. The renovated Bailey plant building is expected to become home to restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as an incubator.  Cross Street Partners is currently looking for developers, if interested contact Commercial Realty Advisors - Cindy Christopher 336.926.1411

The Greenway (Rail Trail North)

WFIQ Rail Trail North is located in a currently unused rail corridor in downtown Winston-Salem, owned by NCDOT Rail and PART.  The project begins at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and extends south to Fogle Street.  The existing rail will remain with a 10′ wide paved trail for pedestrian and bicycle use located just west of the existing tracks.   The trail is approximately 2,800 linear feet.  This project will provide safe and accessible pedestrian connectivity to various downtown assets.

Proposed Improvements include a 10’ wide concrete or asphalt trail with additional corridor space for bicycle and pedestrian amenities.  The project will require two new pedestrian bridges at a total length of 335 linear feet, and three existing bridges will be refurbished for pedestrian and bicycle use.   The majority of the existing corridor is elevated above street level, providing the opportunity for a grade separated bicycle and pedestrian trail in downtown Winston-Salem. Specific amenities will include lighting, signage, benches, litter/recycling receptacles, bicycle racks, drinking fountains, water features, landscape, security phones/cameras and wi-fi.
